Almost everyone who ends up on this page wonders: er, learning Portuguese under hypnosis…? What’s that like? How does it actually work? Read on a little further and we’ll explain!
When you hear the word hypnosis, you may associate it with hypnosis shows or magic performances. But rest assured, our hypnosis has nothing to do with any of that. And it doesn’t feel weird either. You aren’t ‘gone’ or ‘out of control’ while under hypnosis.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Suppose you are enjoying your hobby. You can stay at it for hours, it never gets boring. You also completely lose track of time and you no longer pay any attention to what is happening around you: you are completely absorbed in your hobby. The outside world doesn’t exist anymore for you for a short while.
That’s exactly what hypnosis feels like during your Portuguese class. So nothing special. You focus completely on your Portuguese course, and all other things don’t matter for a while.
How do lessons under hypnosis work?
All Portuguese lessons at Heart of Language are offered 1-on-1. You sit or lie in an easy chair and wear headphones. Through your headphones you hear the voice of your teacher talking to you in a reassuring, calm way. Relaxing instrumental music plays in the background. This soothing soundscape ensures that you fall into deep relaxation or hypnosis while you listen.
Now, you’re fully relaxed and completely focused on what your teacher is saying to you in the headphones. You internalise your lesson material easily and don’t have to make an effort to concentrate. That’s why learning Portuguese under hypnosis works so well: you are completely mentally present with undivided attention.

Portuguese course at Heart of Language: practical information
- Lessons are always offered in private, but you can also take lessons together, for example with your partner or friend.
- A complete Portuguese course consists of 40 hours. You can also sign up smaller courses or even single lessons. You plan your teaching hours yourself in consultation with your teacher.
- Learn at your own pace. Crash course or take it easy? It’s up to you!
- You choose where you take your language course. For example, you can come visit us at our language schools in Amsterdam or in The Hague, or you can take your lessons online. We are also happy to come to you in consultation. Combining these methods for a hybrid course format is also possible.
- Also (especially!) quite suitable for people who have difficulty learning a language or advancing to the next level..
Build your own Portuguese course!
- The Portuguese course of Heart of Language? It doesn’t exist. You put together your own Portuguese language course. Here’s what it looks like:
- The learning materials? Your choice. What would you like to learn? Discuss with your teacher what you think is important or what your learning goals are and choose the material you want to master together. This way you will always learn useful and practical things that are relevant to you.
- No grammar, no vocabulary lists, no spelling quizzes. We do all that we can to imitate the natural way of learning a language as closely as possible.
- Your level is our starting point. It doesn’t matter whether you’re looking for a Portuguese language course for beginners or advanced students: we always meet you at your level at Heart of Language.
- How would you like to take your Portuguese lessons? At our language school in The Hague or Amsterdam? Online language course lessons (at home on the couch)? In-company? Or do you want to combine these methods for a hybrid format? Anything is possible (almost!) after consultation with your teacher!
- The first Portuguese lesson is always possible. During the first lesson you will get to know how learning Portuguese under hypnosis feels. You can take your trial lesson at our language school in The Hague or online.
